Antidote to email hackings developed

A US computer scientist, Troy Hunt, has developed a simple but effective method for re-securing email passwords to some of the biggest sites on the web.

Hunt has created the “Have I Been Pwned” look-up database, where users can check their email against 154 million email addresses (minus passwords) exposed in data breaches at Adobe, Stratfor, Gawker, Yahoo, and Sony.

While the project’s name might not sound too serious, it is highly relevant on the back of the announcement from security firm Trustwave that more than 2 million accounts have been compromised at popular sites such as Google, Yahoo, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
