Piracy’s Billion-Pound Bill

The cheap stream has an expensive bill. The Price of Piracy, produced by WPI Economics for BeStreamWise, estimates £1.35 billion in annual lost revenue from illegal streaming in the UK—£700 million from live sport and £653 million from film and television.

The consequences reach beyond broadcasters: an estimated employment impact equivalent to 10,400 jobs, £366 million in lost tax receipts and £270 million lost by consumers to fraud and identity theft.

Netopia’s infographic shows who pays. Piracy drains investment from creativity, exposes viewers to criminals and leaves public services with less funding.
