European Parliament calls for freezing EU-US free trade talks

A number of Members of the European Parliament (MEPS) have called for the suspension of the negotiations between the EU and the US on a future Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) until the US has provided clarification on the revelations that the US secret service had bugged EU buildings in Brussels and Washington.

The German magazine Der Spiegel reported on the weekend that the National Security Agency (NSA) had wiretapped EU offices and thus gained access to internal computer networks. This is only the latest revelation in the scandal surrounding secret cyber spying by the US that has triggered outrage from national and EU politicians alike.
