Among the main Europe 2020 strategy goals set concerning the digital policy, there is the providing of basic broadband access for all of the European Union citizens by 2013. The goal has now been achieved, as the European Commission announced on the 17 October.
The objective was achieved thanks to the satellite connections that are now available in all the member countries of the European Union and that have enabled coverage for the reamining 3 million of households that were still missing access to basic broadband.
The European Commission has set fast broadband coverage (30 Mbps) by 2020 as the next objective.
