Omnipresent Surveillance Issues at the Internet Governance Forum

The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2013, the UN-convened largest global multistakeholder meeting on internet governance, has been overshadowed by the issue of surveillance. Indeed, during the four-day forum, the 1500 representatives of governments, civil society, technical community and private sector were continuously confronted with this matter.

In the wake of the NSA scandal following Edward Snowden’s revelations, the potential dangers of internet for the security and privacy of the communication have become evident . Therefore, the workshops and discussions at the IGF focused on the need to restore trust in the internet.
